Lewis Hamilton: "Tomorrow will be a Sunday drive"

Lewis Hamilton believes that his weekend is done and dusted after dropping out in Q2 in Monaco. The Brit was struggling with his car throughout all of the session and sat in the drop zone while the clocked ticked down. He was forced to set a time in the dying embers of the session but couldn't improve when he hit a yellow flag zone caused by Stoffel Vandoorne.

It's the first time since 2013 that Hamilton hasn't made it into Q3 based on pace alone and was evidently disappointed following qualifying. He will start the race from P13, eleven places away from title rival Sebastian Vettel.

"That's pretty much the weekend done, so tomorrow will just be driving around in whatever position outside of the top 10," he said. "I will try and get up as high as I can but it's hard to overtake here, so it's going to be a nice Sunday drive tomorrow I'd imagine."

Hamilton believes that the lap that he was on would have been enough to see him into the final part of qualifying, but that in Q3, he would have struggled to compete in the top five.

"I think that lap may have just got me into the top 10. Then I probably would have struggled to be in the top five [in Q3] with the pace I had, whatever issue I had with the car. It's great to see Valtteri [what] was able to extract; the performance of the car shows we're not terrible here and we'll have to figure out why I wasn't able to be up with him."
