Ferrari is rumoured to have become the first F1 team to take up Liberty Media's offer to buy shares in the sport, if reports in the Italian and Spanish media are to be believed.
F1's new owners first extended this offer to each of the teams in September last year, but many were - and remain - hesitant. Only the Scuderia expressed any real interest, and they now seem to have acted on this. AS, a Spanish sports publication, has reported that official documents exist which supposedly confirm Ferrari's purchase of $11.5 million worth of shares.
This is said to have been finalised at the end of last month. Meanwhile, McLaren and its Racing Director Eric Boullier have also been questioned regarding the possibility of the Woking team acquiring shares - but when Boullier was approached by Italy's La Gazzetta dello Sport, he was somewhat defensive: "I cannot answer," he replied.
Despite this, however, he was willing to speak about Liberty Media themselves: "We have our own ideas about what could be helpful to F1 and we are keen to know the plans of Liberty, to understand the end product they have in mind.
"Certainly their strategy seems different from that of Bernie Ecclestone - they want to change the Grands Prix and are trying to involve the teams, sponsors and all the players so that nobody is left on the margins," Boullier said.
