Lewis Hamilton has said that qualifying for the Mexican Grand Prix was tough, despite taking pole position.
A last ditch attempt from team mate Nico Rosberg was not enough to usurp the Brit who claimed his second consecutive pole position.
"It’s always a tough battle. Trying to pull out the perfect laps when it counts is always the difficult thing, particularly with these tires," he said. "Sometimes it’s on the first lap, sometimes it’s on the second lap when the tires are ready. Definitely very challenging, as this track always is."
At last year's Mexican Grand Prix, the first for over 20 years, drivers struggled for grip after the track was re-laid not long before the event. However, Hamilton said there was no such problems this time.
"This track has got a lot better because there’s a lot of grip on the track now," he said. "Last year we were sliding around a lot more. Today it feels more like a race track which is great."
