Today marks 20 years since Damon Hill won the Formula One world championship.
After two years of playing second fiddle to Michael Schumacher, Hill finally took the crown as Schumacher made his move to Ferrari.
Hill never failed to qualify outside of the top two during his championship year, winning eight races to beat rookie team mate Jacques Villeneuve by 19 points.
In winning the 1996 championship, Hill became the first second-generation champion, after his father, the late Graham Hill, won the championship in 1962 and 1968.
Today's the day then. 20 years ago. Like Sargent Pepper said. #F1WorldChampion https://t.co/ejlG8nJdTa
