Battle for fourth could be settled by top three teams

Claire Williams believes that the top three teams will hold the key to deciding who will come out on top in the battle for fourth place.

The British team are currently locked in an intense battle for fourth with Force India with the two teams both trading places at each of the two races after the summer break, but Williams thinks that if either Mercedes, Red Bull, or Ferrari were able to let their guard down and open up a spot on the podium in one of the final races then that could settle the battle for fourth.

"You've Mercedes, Ferrari and Red Bull taking those top positions, and we're scrapping around for the other points here and there, so it is going to be a case of a bit of backwards and forwards between us," Williams told Autosport.

"But then you've the possibility of someone making a mistake at the top end and one of us being on the podium.

"If that's the case then it could be all over. I just hope it's us that gets that."
