McLaren rejected Pirelli test opportunity

McLaren has rejected the opportunities to test the 2017 tyres.

Tyre supplier Pirelli asked teams to deliver a modified 2015 car to develop the wider tires for next season and Ferrari, Red Bull Racing and Mercedes have obliged so far.

McLaren meanwhile has their hands full and have chosen to focus on improving their package.

"You have to take stock of yourself about the cost and effort it would take to bring a test car in readiness, we drew the conclusion that it was better for us not to," McLaren managing director Eric Boullier explained.

"Of course you can learn a thing on that tire, but all data is shared with the teams who do not test. We are not where we want to be and would rather concentrate on ourselves and on speeding up our car."
