F1 votes against Halo

The Formula One Strategy Group has voted against introducing the Halo head protection device for 2017.

In a meeting for the group in Geneva on Thursday, it was decided that the device's introduction was to be delayed until 2018, bu= F1 supremo Bernie Ecclestone is still trying to work out a way to get the device scrapped completely.

"The halo maybe is not the right way to go," he told the Telegraph. "We're going to come up with something better than that."

Speaking to Autosport, he added that they were "going to have a good look at it."

"We felt despite the numerous tests conducted by the FIA, it hadn't been looked at deeply enough, and that it is going to require more time," he said. "We've also decided we will no longer be calling it the halo. We're simply going with head protection."

Despite the vote, the FIA can still force through the introduction of the head protection on safety grounds.

  • Probably a good idea, the thought is good but not ripe, and they need to think it through better before they realize it.
