Honda planning to use all engine tokens this year

Honda chief Yusuke Hasegawa has said that the team plans to use all of it's remaining engine development tokens this season as it looks to close the gap to Renault, Ferrari, and Mercedes.

The Japanese manufacturer has struggled since returning to Formula One last year but Hasegawa believes the latest work being carried out is cause for optimism.

"We saw some elements are good," he told Austosport when asked how the latest upgrades have performed on the dyno. "We just have to prove that it is OK as a package and also we need to complete durability confirmation."

With the promising numbers giving Honda something positive to work with, Hasegawa says that Honda's engine development will be flat tout.

"We always keep developing so as soon as we can prepare something, there is no reason to wait to introduce it," he said. "There is no end for the development."

"We have some room to improve, especially from an ICE (Internal Combustion Engine) point of view," he continued. "I think we will spend all tokens for this year."
