While the youngster has claimed a win and two second places, Ricciardo has struggled to match him, and missed out on possible victories in Monaco and Canada.
"It was an important race for Daniel just to re-establish his confidence," Horner said. "He was on it all weekend and I'm very happy with the weekend that he's had.
"It was a great race for him - a confidence booster for the second half of the year."
