Pirelli motorsport boss Paul Hembery expects recent resurfacing work carried out at the Hungaroring could see drivers post faster lap times this weekend.
The new surface, combined with new kerbs, and 2016's faster cars mean that the lap record, 1 minute, 18.436 seconds - set by Rubens Barrichello in 2004, could be in sight.

"The track has been completely resurfaced, and we saw in Austria that this had quite a profound influence as well: we will need to see if this is case in Hungary too, so free practice will be very important," said Hembery.
"The track has been entirely resurfaced and the circuit infrastructure upgraded this year," the Italian firm said in a statement. "There is also some new kerbing and run-off areas while the effect of the resurfacing has additionally been to smooth out some of the bumps. This should culminate in faster lap times."
Lewis Hamilton's pole position time from last year was 1 minute 22.020 seconds, some way off the record set over a decade ago.
