Silverstone denies it has reached a new deal

Silverstone has denied that it has reached a deal with Liberty Media to host the British Grand Prix until 2022.

Silverstone's contract expires after the 2019 event, as the circuit activated a release clause in its contract in 2017 to end its contract early amid rising costs.

A source confirmed to GPToday.net that there is currently no deal in place for a race in 2020 and beyond.

On Tuesday morning, Silverstone followed up on social media: "Unfortunately there is fake news circulating this morning regarding the agreement of a new deal for the British Grand Prix at Silverstone.

"At this time we can confirm that we have not agreed a contract however talks are still progressing."

The British Grand Prix has been on the calendar every season since the inaugural world championship year of 1950, with Silverstone hosting the event every year since 1987.

  • GFY Silverstone. I hope they take the race away and move it to Brands Hatch or something else.
