Carey confident on futures of China, Singapore

After the FIA released the 2018 calendar, there were many talking points including the fact that China and Singapore are still in doubt for next year. The events are both subject to confirmation, meaning that the preliminary 21-race calendar could drop to 19.

Singapore has had a cloud hanging over its Grand Prix for months now to the disappointment of many fans. It is not known when the futures of the two events will be decided, but CEO of Formula 1 Chase Carey is confident that they will remain on the calendar.

"We are negotiating new agreements that are not signed, but we have good communication and our expectation is that these races are on the calendar," the American said. "We would not have put 21 races on the calendar if there are doubts, but the reality is that today we do not have agreements."

Triple header

Also featuring on the calendar will be Formula 1's first ever triple header. The races in France, Austria and Great Britain will all run back to back, making for three weeks of non-stop action. Carey confirmed that this is due to next year's FIFA World Cup.

"It would have been difficult for promoters to have to compete with the final of a World Cup," he said. "It's important to notice that all of the races of the three are in Europe. I think the calendar is well thought out," added Carey.
