2018 will feature the French Grand Prix for the first time since 2008. Circuit Paul Ricard will host the race for the first time since 1990, as 1991 to 2008 was held by Magny-Cours. Last year, when the return was announced, Bernie Ecclestone said that it was likely the Grand Prix would be held at the end of July.
Race promoter Christian Estrosi revealed recently that he has met with Formula 1's new CEO Chase Carey to discuss a set date. He confirmed that they are now looking at a weekend from late June to mid-July
"In our conversation, I paid particular attention to the choice of the date for the Grand Prix, because it depends largely on the success of the race," Estrosi said. "We are now discussing the period from late June to mid-July, and now FOM and FIA will offer us a specific date. As soon as it becomes known, we will begin selling tickets."
Estrosi also said that Carey spoke about the race having a French cultural background, much like he is attempting to do with the other races that are being held around the world.
"Chase [Crey] wants the Grand Prix at Paul Ricard in the first instance to be truly French," he said. "He wants the Spanish Grand Prix to reflect Catalonia and Barcelona, Italy to reflect Milan and Lombardy, and so on. He wants a national character and I really like his proposed approach."
