Mercedes has voluntarily ditched their suspension system before the Australian Grand Prix, which has been a hot topic of debate over the last few months.
The suspension mimics the 'active suspension' which is banned in Formula 1. Following complaints from Ferrari, Red Bull was ordered by the FIA to remove it.

While the Mercedes system is technically legal, the team "doesn't want to take any risks in the first race", according to reports from Auto Motor und Sport.
Part of the decision to remove it is also "because the system has no advantage in Melbourne", correspondent Michael Schmidt added. The technology is nonetheless borderline on what is legal, so there is a chance that the FIA could deem the system illegal post-race, stripping away Mercedes of any potential results.
An FIA source said: "If we had the slightest doubt, we would have to communicate these doubts to the stewards. What do you think they would decide?"
