No problems with 2017 Renault engine - Marko

Dr Helmut Marko is not worried about the potential unreliability of the Renault engine ahead of the 2017 Formula 1 season. The team will keep with Renault but will re-brand them as Tag Heuer, just like 2016.

At a Toro Rosso filming day, the team only managed six laps before the power unit failed, sparking rumours that the French manufacturer Renault created a undependable engine.

But Red Bull Racing's Marko told Auto Bild: "We believe in Renault, and at the moment there are no problems with the engine." However, the entire pitlane is nervous about rumours that the already-dominant Mercedes has possibly made an equally big engine step for 2017.

"What scares me the most is not the Mercedes team," said Toro Rosso driver Carlos Sainz, "because it is not on our radar.

"What scares me more is that Force India and Williams could have even more power. I am convinced that in previous years we could have beaten them with the same engine, so hopefully this year we will have an engine that will allow us to fight," he told the Spanish press in Barcelona.

  • *No problems as of yet. Its only one day into the testing, dear Marko, and the season is dark and full of terrors.
