Jenson Button: "I will still be racing this year"

Jenson Button is ready to return to racing after the Briton enters a year in which he will not be competing in F1, where he has been racing for the past 17 years.

Button signed a two year deal with McLaren in September and although he is not racing in F1 this year, he may return in 2018. Taking his seat this year is Belgian Stoffel Vandoorne.

"This year for me is about everything else in my life, apart from Formula One," Button said. "I’ve been enjoying myself and it’s been great so far. I will still be racing this year – starting this weekend."

Button is currently in Miami competing at the Race of Champions, where there is a mix of racing talent from across the globe

"It’s great to be back at the Race Of Champions, especially to be in Miami. It was my birthday [on Thursday] - I’m 37 now, so I’m a bit the worse for wear today," he added ahead of Friday's practice session. "Hopefully by tomorrow I’ll be in better form."

"My ROC Nations Cup team-mate DC is always very good if he hasn’t slept much. Thankfully it doesn’t look like he’s slept much, so he should be firing on all cylinders, however many of those there are!" Button concluded.

Button is tipped to compete in rallycross this year, a favourite series of his late father John.
