Michael Schumacher turns 48

Michael Schumacher turns 48 today, three years on from his skiing accident that has left him in a serious condition.

The fine details of the seven-time world champion's condition remains unclear as the family has continued to ask for privacy as the German remains at home.

In a statement released last month when the Schumacher family started the 'Keep Fighting Initative', his manger Sabine Kehm said;

“Michael’s health is not a public issue, and so we will continue to make no comment in that regard," she continued. "This is also because we have to protect his intimate sphere. Legally seen and in the longer term, every statement related to his health would diminish the extent of his intimate sphere.

“We are aware that this may be difficult for some people to understand but we do this with full commitment to Michael’s guidelines and can only thank people for their understanding."

Double world champion Mika Hakkinen also offered his thoughts on this day.

"He is an incredible personality and a great person," the Finn told Germany's Bild newspaper. "I am as affected by his fate as anyone.

"It would be great if he is better and we can see him again someday," Hakkinen added.

Very few people are granted access to see Schumacher by his family, but one of these people is former colleague Luca Badoer.

"I miss him very much," former Ferrari tester Badoer said. "But I follow him, because in life there is always hope."

  • 48 is still good for a professional who got out of it a while back. A pity as a good deal of his healthy life is ahead of him.
