Canada looking to secure GP future

Canadian Grand Prix officials are moving the secure the race's future.

The race was listed as 'subject to confirmation' as the FIA published the 2017 race calendar last week.

Tickets are yet to go on sale for the event and the promoter is locked in negotiations with Bernie Ecclestone. The city of Montreal could be set to help out, however, with a $4 million renovation of the track's paddock set to be completed by 2019.

"In return," La Presse said, "the City is negotiating with F1 to extend the Canadian Grand Prix by five years, from 2025-2029.

"The City of Montreal and F1 have agreed to this solution in principle, but the documents have not been formally signed," the newspaper added.

While Montreal mayor Denis Coderre is not commenting, on the situation, his office did say that he "is confident that Montreal will be included on the official calendar."
