Mercedes announce F1-inspired road car

Mercedes-AMG have confirmed that they are working on a road-going "hypercar" that will utilise Formula One technology.

Speaking at the Paris motorshow yesterday (Wednesday), Mercedes R&D boss Thomas Weber confirmed that the manufacturer was working on such a car.

"Under the lead of Mercedes-AMG, our performance companies will join forces and create the most efficient and, at the same time, most dynamic and most spectacular AMG of all time,” he said. “Some might even call it a hypercar."

Details of the car were not revealed, although it has been reported that the car will be fitted with a version of the company's dominant 1.6 litre V6 Formula One engine, that could feature an additional turbo, improved cooling, and increased displacement. A power-to-weight ratio of one horsepower per kilogram has also been mooted.

The news of Mercedes' upcoming hypercar comes after Aston Martin revealed they are working on a similar car with the help of Red Bull Racing and their designer Adrian Newey.
