Formula One's Strategy Group have agreed that standing starts in wet conditions will return next season.
It is though that the new procedure will see drivers follow behind the safety car for a few laps before lining up on the grid for a full standing start.
The change comes after the controversial start to the British Grand Prix earlier this month.
After a sudden downpour, the race began behind the safety car, continuing that way for five laps, despite complaints from drivers, teams, and onlookers that the safety car period could have been considerably shorter.
The change, although agreed by the strategy group, needs to be ratified by the F1 commission and World Motorsport Council before it is introduced.
