F1 will honour Lauda with a red cap tribute at Monaco

F1 will be honouring three-times world champion Niki Lauda at this weekend's Monaco Grand Prix with separate tributes from the teams and drivers as well as the fans.

Lauda was well known for his trademark red baseball cap and it was decided that the hat could be a centrepiece of the tribute planned for the race on Sunday.

Lauda passed away earlier this week and the in honour of the legendary champion the grid will observe a minutes silence before the race. The 20 drivers, some of Lauda's contemporaries and other dignitaries will each be holding a red cap.

Formula 1, the FIA, the Automobile Club de Monaco and each of the ten teams are inviting fans to take part in their own tribute to the Austrian during the in-lap to the race.

Fans in attendance can either wear a red cap, display a message on a banner or simply applaud. Those watching from the yachts have been invited to sound their klaxons.

This weekend will be the 90th running of the Monaco Grand Prix which Lauda won in 1975 and 1976 and will see the teams and drivers displaying various tributes on their cars.

  • Again: I would've preferred it if they had honoured him while he was there to see it. But we can of course not know when and how things will go, and it is still a very touching display.

    Dear website support people!!

It's only the 77th Monaco Grand Prix.
    The anniversary counts 90 years.
This is due to WWII ans some years without races until 1950.

Same error found on formula1.com ....

    Kind regards from Wuppertal
