Ferrari to discuss team orders after Barcelona

Sebastian Vettel says that Ferrari will have an internal discussion about team orders following the Spanish Grand Prix. On two separate occasions during the race, the faster Ferrari driver was held up behind the other car.

Vettel suffered flat-spotted tyres after locking up during a first corner lunge and also lost a place to Max Verstappen.

He was not able to push as hard as he wanted due to the damaged tyres and ended up holding up his teammate Charles Leclerc

The Italian team did not issue instructions to their drivers until a number of laps had passed This delay allowed the three frontrunners to increase their lead.

Ferrari eventually ordered Leclerc to pass Vettel and shortly after brought him in to replace his compromised tyres.

During his second stint, Vettel managed to catch Leclerc and then it was his turn to be stuck behind the slower car which caused him to lose yet more time to the front three.

Ferrari eventually issued team orders instructing Leclerc to let him past.

“We will talk about it internally but inside the car, we try to do our own race, I think in the beginning it was clear that Charles was faster. When he was putting on more pressure I was happy to let him go."

“Then in the second stint, I wasn't aware we were on different strategies for a long time but once it was clear I was let go and I was obviously a lot faster.

“I tried to put pressure on Max but with the safety car, in the end, it didn't matter."

Vettel acknowledges that his race was compromised by his first corner flat spot. "It compromised my first stint but then after that my pace was fine, (however) from there it was difficult to come back."
