FIA president has said today that too much is said about the noise in F1 and need to be at the cutting edge of technology in order to remain relevant in the automotive industry.
Todts stance is one that seems to be going against the current will at the top of the sport, with the likes of Liberty Media and Ross Brawn intent on moving F1 away from road car relevance, and bringing it back towards a more fan based sport. This would mean, although retaining hybrid technology, there would be more catering towards fans in terms of speed and sound in the future.

In the era of the 1.6l V6 engines there has been much criticism that the engines don't sound anywhere near as loud or as good as F1 cars in the past, and the sport has lost some of the spectacle surrounding it because of this. However Todt has said that the issue of noise has been given too much importance as of late, and believes it is important that F1 remains eco friendly and relevant to the road.
He said in a recent interview: "We make too much noise about the noise, You have thousands of people who die because they cannot breathe, it’s not F1 carbonisation or pollution which is killing [people], but we have a responsibility because we are visible."
Todt was then asked if he was unhappy with F1’s new direction away from the FIA’s directives, responding with: "Why should I be unhappy about them creating a structure which will allow us to be more efficient together? As long as the FIA is able to exercise its duty."

I do think it's the fans that decide the relevance of a sport. Not the rule makers sitting in dusty offices
If it's electrification and hi tech that people want than formula e will continue to grow. If they don't the fans will choose something else. That's how every market works
