London Mayor Sadiq Kahn says that before plans are made to talk about a possible London Grand Prix, there must be heavy pollution and environmental research.
New CEO of F1 Chase Carey has highlighted his interest of the possibility of a Grand Prix in Britain's capital, an event that Bernie Ecclestone said could surpass the hype and glamour of the Monaco Grand Prix.
“Until we receive a proposal and have a greater understanding of the type of infrastructure Formula One requires for a race, it is difficult to comment on what would and would not be possible,” a spokesman for mayor Khan told The Times.
Formula E currently hosts an ePrix in London, however with no dangerous emissions and no noise pollution, it was a much easier deal to negotiate. Former London Mayor Boris Johnson has said that he would welcome the prospect of hosting a world championship race in London.
“I am certainly willing to look at it,” Johnson said in 2015, at the first London ePrix. “I am always interested in projects that attract jobs and bring growth. The question of air quality and noise impact will have to be looked at. I am broadly positive providing we can satisfy the air quality and noise issues.”
