Brazil ministers back Grand Prix

The Brazilian Grand Prix will remain on the Formula One calendar thanks to the federal government.

The race has so far only been guaranteed provisional status for 2017, amid track improvement delays and economic recession in the country.

After Bernie Ecclestone visited Brazilian president Michel Temer prior to the Grand Prix, tourism minister Marx Beltrao and sport minister Leonardo Picciani both attended the race at the race, and pledged their support to the event.

"The ministry released funds in this direction last week," Beltrao is quoted by Metro Jornal

And Picciani added: "The continuation of the race is very important and has the support of the federal government."

The Jornal de Brasilia also quoted sports minister Picciani as saying: "This is an event for Sao Paulo and Brazil.

"Working together is essential to ensure the race circuit is in the best possible condition to continue to accommodate Formula One," he added.
