Paul Hembery: "Hockenheim is relatively uncharted territory for us"

Formula One returns to the Hockenheimring this weekend after a year absence.

Despite only being away for a single season, the pause has made it difficult for Pirelli to make a good choice for the tire compounds for this weekend's race according to Pirelli motorsport boss Paul Hembery.

"Hockenheim is a bit unknown," he said. "We were here two years ago for the last race and before the race alternated with the Nurburgring. Compared to other circuits, we have relatively little data about this one."

"The cars are of course a lot faster than in 2014, which is why we opted for harder tires this year," he continued. "What was striking in 2014 was the changeable weather in Germany. On race day the track was temperature twenty degrees lower than during qualifying . We visit Germany again in the same time of the year, therefore, there is of course a chance that the same thing happens again. "
