Pirelli motorsport boss Paul Hembery has said that the Italian manufacturer would like to carry out winter tests in Middle Eastern countries ahead of the 2017 season.
Formula One winter testing has mainly taken place on tracks in Spain in recent years to cut down on costs but the cold temperatures don't present something fully representative of the warm conditions that F1 experiences during events during the season.
To get around this problem, Hembery is hoping that teams will be able to test further afield in the future.
"We would prefer to go somewhere like Bahrain or Abu Dhabi," Hembery told the official Formula One website. "The temperatures will be representative and we know the tracks very well. We definitely would want to go to representative tracks."
"If we have any surprises, if the cars then are very different to what we had envisioned, then we will have to react to that," he said. "Probably not for the first race, but at least when we have some really good winter testing we should know in advance how it is likely going to be - what changes are needed."
