The intensity of the rain is expected to ease in the latter part of the hour, however the standing water and rivers that will remain may see the session delayed further. It is expected that Bernd Mayländer, the Safety Car driver will run some exploratory laps to determine the condition of the circuit.
This is the second session affected by the weather after a fortnight ago in Australia, the rain hit as Q1 got underway.
We will update you as we receive more information.
Update - 16.20 Local Time: After exploratory laps were completed the session has been delayed by a further 15 minutes due to the amount of standing water on the circuit. Another update is due at 16.35 Local Time.
Update - 16.35 Local Time: A further 5 minute delay has been announced with another update at 16.45. The circuit however is looking to be almost ready for intermediate tyres and drivers are getting their crash helmets on in anticipation to drive.
Update - 16.45 Local Time: Qualifying will start at 16.50 Local Time.
