Formula 2 newcomers HWA RACELAB has announced the signing of Artem Markelov for the 2020 season.

HWA take over Arden's place on the grid for next season with Markelov being the first driver confirmation for the 2020 grid.

Markelov is vastly experienced at the F2 level, having competed in five full seasons - three of which where when the series was run under the name 'GP2'.

This year, he has competed at two rounds so far - in Monaco, stepping in for Jordan King who was racing at the Indianapolis 500, and in Sochi, where he replaced the late Anthoine Hubert.

Markelov is also set to finish the season with Arden at the season finale in Abu Dhabi next weekend.

"I am really looking forward to racing for HWA RACELAB in Formula 2 next season," Markelov said. "I think we will gel quickly. HWA has a vast wealth of motorsport experience, from which I am sure I will benefit."

"Artem is the ideal driver for us in our first season as an independent team in Formula 2," added HWA AG CEO Ulrich Fritz. "He has lots of experience at this level. His tally of eight race wins speaks for itself.

"His expertise as a driver will help make our introduction to the series easier. I am pleased that we were able to acquire his services."
