Kvyat tips Red Bull to compete with Mercedes

Daniil Kvyat is expecting Red Bull to challenge F1 pacesetter Mercedes later in 2016. The Russian surprised with his podium finish in China last weekend, the day after teammate Daniel Ricciardo qualified on the front row of the grid. "I believe the Red Bull is the best chassis on the grid," works Renault driver Kevin Magnussen told the Danish newspaper Ekstra Bladet.
And so with Renault expected to dramatically improve Red Bull's Tag Heuer-branded power unit in the coming weeks, Kvyat is confident of more podium finishes. "Sunday's race has given us a lot of confidence," Kvyat is quoted by Russia's Sportbox. "I think our pace was almost comparable to Ferrari's, and we have proved we are already the third team."
"Mercedes is still a long way ahead of us, but we are planning large updates around the Canada race," the 21-year-old added. "Perhaps they will allow us to compete on an even footing with Mercedes." (GMM)

LOL they cant even hold on to Ferrari in a straight fight and they talk about Mercedes. Horner talks a lot of BS but their drivers have been more sensible in the past now it seems like hyping up things is the way to go, Rebbull maybe feeling the need for more money. Hmmm

Red Bull are no doubt strong, but they have miles to go if they want to be ahead of Mercedes... And first they'd have to get past Ferrari, and as of now Ferrari has a bigger potential to challenge Mercedes, with a much stronger PU than Renault combined with a tyre friendly, aero friendly car and two champion drivers. Red Bull has a good chassis, yes, but their PU is inferior to the Ferrari unit, and next update is scheduled for what, Canada? Thats quite a while away, and it'll be enough time for the front runners to get a decent leap on them. Red Bull will have to work for it.

Pretty sure Merc is getting at least a bit worried.
Ricciardo passed Rosberg in the beginning of the race before he had that puncture.
And it's generally known the Merc does not follow other cars well so it might have been a very different race.

The only weaknesses Mercedes have are there brakes which have always their achillies heel, and also there aero when following cars. Redbull definitely have 1 of or the best chassis on the grid, but that's because they are a 100% chassis developing company, Merc and Ferrari have to focus on both with probably less staff on Aero compared to RB. RB will only look strong at the likes of Monaco, Singapore, maybe even Brazil.

I agree on brakes and following, and would like to add hot and moist air. From what I've heard, they still dont know what caused their reliability problems in e.g Singapore last year, so we have that to look forward to. Just dont hope Ferrari's new compact design will hurt them in a similar way.
