Formula E has been slammed as a "financial fiasco" by withdrawing race host Montreal. The Canadian city was scheduled to host the season finale next July, but mayor Valerie Plante said taxpayers were not willing to pay the EUR 23 million bill.

"Citizens have made it clear that we cannot waste their money on badly planned projects that do not help them," SID news agency quotes her as saying. She said a one-year break from the electric series was proposed, but "Formula E leaders categorically rejected the option". Plante was also quoted by Le Journdal de Montreal newspaper: "Formula E will not be back in Montreal in these conditions". (GMM)

Yes well who does Formula E think it is anyway? It’s a child’s series for worn out F1 stars. The public are not fooled by Todt’s pet project..

I`ve tried to. Boringly slow, ridiculous little narrow `tracks`and swapping cars half way through. Not worth my time and the people of Montreal, who are amongst the most avid F1 fans agree. Total ticket sales last year were laughable.

    • Im not sure if FE will be a lasting series. Not only did it have a pretty weak start, viewer retention seem to have steadily declined. And the fact that they have to switch cars midrace despite not having much power doesnt have a good ring to it. It almost sounds as if they went at it prematurely. Its nice for them that they get lots of manufacturer support, but where is the fan support? EVs are the future, Im sure of that as of now, but Im not sure FE is the future of motorsports.

  • I don't get all the hate Formula E gets. It's a zero-sum game for so many morons. As if FE's success somehow curtailed Formula 1. FE does a lot of things very well, it's a decent show, it goes to many interesting locations, it's well attended, it's priced reasonably so that families can attend (unlike Formula 1). I love motorsports, so I want to see a new category do well. Specially if it has technology that transfers well to road cars.
