Kevin Magnussen to push even harder in 2018

Kevin Magnussen says he will push just as hard in 2018 as he did last year -- and perhaps even harder. That is despite the fact the Dane got a reputation among his rivals as the F1 'bad boy' due to some aggressive driving last season.

But Magnussen says he will change little about his approach. "I look at it like this," he told BT newspaper. "If I get a penalty, then I've made a mistake. But I only got one penalty last year so I need to learn from that. So this year, I'm going to try to drive just as hard without getting any penalties. That doesn't mean I'm going to be any more friendly on the track. I hope to be even harder -- just without any penalty," he smiled.

The 25-year-old's two-year Haas deal runs out this year, but there is an 'option' on his contract for 2019. "I'm happy to be here with Haas, and my starting point is that I want to stay," he said. "Therefore, I do not have much stress. Of course it would always be nice to be notified as early as possible." (GMM)

  • I like Kevin, but I hope he uses better judgment in 2018 when pushing, because he's one season more crazy season away from turning into a Pastor Maldonado of sorts... The kind of driver that can't fight for position without crashing or touching, and who never takes responsability

    • I agree. I doubt we are seeing the genesis of Pastor 2.0, but he went a bit rough at the end of last season, and not in a good way.

I simply dont see what Kevin and Maldonado has in common.
Maldonado crossed the limits on several occasions, much more than Kevin do.
And he also had the capability wreck his car with no competitors around.
Please look at this video, and tell me if you still think the same:

    • What are you both talking about! He raced hard but where was he not fair? okay maybe not fair against Hulkenberg but I really think he deserved to be sat on the grass. @AJP.... Everyone end up touch for positions maybe you should review all races last year and look at the top 5 drivers. Yes maybe exclude Hamilton but most other done same. Fact is when you down there fighting for a single point it means you have to be agressive when attack and same as when defend. Michael schumacher and Senna did exactly the same. compare Kevin to Pastor I think just bs..better your go on youtube find all his crashes there. I thing Kevin was involved in one crash last year that he was the guilty part. Give me an example where he not take responsibility. To be honest you try to tell us all that you like him but actually you do not. Maybe you both @Cal.... include should attend sunday school instead of watching FM 1 races. Because he like Grojean fights for it and really a true racer that been done this since he was a little boy. WTF.

Lol @RenaultFM1. How much time are you spending around at F1 sites defending K-mag.
1 crash? I can recall a few more, can be more.

      - Aus. Crashing into ERI
      - Bra. Crashing into Van.
      - Hun. Pushing off Hul
      - USA. Pushing off WEH.

Must be a reason that all the other drivers on the grid don’t like him.

    • #calleitw #AJPennypacker #Ochide Kevin had his share of crashes like everyone else but to compare him with Pastor or even Grojean when he startet I would say Kevin is behaving nicely. www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yp0HwMZCoVc look at Pastor here. #ochide I would say Kevin would be the one in the aussie grand prix to blame but for sure not in Bra. If you look again you can see Vand turns to the right because Ric is on his left side suddenly. And about hulkeberg..He got what he derserved and about longtime crybaby Alonso that was just hard driving as Alonso normally does himself. Seems when Types like Alo, Ver, Wettel drives har it is ok but who in back they are just idiots. Anyway....looking forward to all your comments this new season. BTW..some wheel to wheel driving is the mosting excting to watch.

Actually I have started to like kmag during the last season. There is sort of an underdog position with his team and I always appreciate a underdog. I just can't stand grosjean with his internal moaning about his brakes. I'd like to kmag joined with a better teammate to make that team a bit more competitive.

    • I mostly like KMag, and he did a decent job last year, but like I said above, I hope he will tone down on the aggressiveness for next season.

    • #calle.itw why would you want him to change his driving style and personality? Just hope he keep fighting for every cm like always

    • Of course, but he doesnt have to take out another driver in yet another incident in the meantime.
