DTM organisers ITR may feel good to look back on the first half of the season 2016.

The touring car class enjoyed higher ratings, and a six per-cent rise in spectator numbers compared to last year. The weekend at the Lausitzring was a particular success, with 67,500 visitors.

"The fans are the backbone of the DTM," said BMW motorsport boss Jens Marquardt. "They are a great source of motivation for our drivers to get the most out of themselves and out of their cars at the same time the increased interest in the DTM proves that we are on the right path with our format."

"We are very pleased with this development, the measures we have taken to strengthen the DTM, are beginning to take effect," added ITR board member Florian Zitzlsperger. " Our product is convincing so far, all the races were exciting and hard-fought That's exactly what the fans want to see and that is why we are optimistic halfway through this season."
